A Connecticut Congress member was admitted to the hospital for two days with a blood clot scare before being discharged and said Sunday that she’s “feeling fine.”

U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, according to a video update the congresswoman posted Sunday afternoon to her social media, of her walking out of St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, had been observed for since Friday.

“On Friday, I felt like I was dizzy while I was shopping. I was out getting phones at the mall and felt like I was dizzy. It didn’t feel normal. I went to the ER and was checked in,” Hayes said.

She said she had “a series of tests run on me, and they thought that I may have had a blood clot, that they were able to break it up with medication. I was admitted for 48 hours for observation. I was discharged today, I’m walking to my car now, and I feel back to normal, a little tired, a little sluggish, but definitely like myself.”

Hayes said she made the video because her body “felt weird” on Friday and at the time she “didn’t know what was going on” and so she went to get checked out.

“And that is probably why I’m able to walk out of the hospital today. When you don’t know what’s going on with your body, when you feel something different, you have to get it checked out. Don’t wait. Don’t try to figure out what it is. I came in and doctors were able to treat me immediately but also ruled out that nothing else was going on,” Hayes said.

“They did all kinds of tests, all kinds of scans and ruled out all other factors and believed that the blood clot was broken up.”

“Thank you to all of the people who reached out. I know that there were lots of people who were scared. I was scared. The amazing staff at St. Mary’s Hospital helped me.” she added. “I will have to follow up with my doctors, but as of today, everything’s fine. I’m just thanking God for the prayers, the mercy, everything and just the fact that I feel better. I will be back in touch soon.”

Hayes has been the U.S. representative for Connecticut’s 5th congressional district since 2019 and became the first Black woman elected to represent the state in the U.S. Congress.
