Michael Jackson made it "very, very clear" to his children that the fairground rides and zoo at Neverland were "not for" them.

The late King of Pop famously had a private amusement park in the grounds of his California home but his daughter Paris Jackson, 28, has revealed she and siblings Prince, 29, and Biji, 24, only got to enjoy the fun occasionally as a reward for working hard because the attractions were there to be used by those less fortunate.

Appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Paris - who was homeschooled - said of Neverland: "I didn't grow up there. It was only the first few years of my life that I was there, and I'd wake up and I'd go to school.

"I'd wake up and we'd go to the room that was our classroom. We'd go to school and the cool, very congruent line throughout my childhood that kind of started there and just continued on wherever we went was, 'If you're good and you do your chores and you do homework and you do the things that you're supposed to do, then on the weekends you can go see some animals and you can go ride some rides and you can go to movies.'

"It was made very, very clear that all of the attractions there were not for us. That did not belong to us. That was for underprivileged children and children that were terminally ill that couldn't go to Disneyland, and that continued on even when we were, because at one point we wouldn't stay in one place for more than a year and we'd hotel hopped a lot, and so it was… if we're living in Vegas and it's like, 'Okay if you're good, you can go to Circus Circus on weekends,' or like we were like some random place in Virginia. 'If you're good, we can go to Chuck E. Cheese this weekend.' "

And Michael, who died in 2009 aged 50, was strict when it came to screen time for his brood.

He said: "We weren't allowed to watch television or movies and stuff either unless we were studying it for film with the sound off or it was on the weekends if we had done everything we were supposed to do."

Paris and Prince's mom is Michael's second wife Debbie Rowe but she wasn't a fixture in her children's lives until they were in their teens, and the Zombies in Love singer revealed they bonded very quickly.

Paris said: "I remember kind of asking about it when I was probably around 10 or 11 and the answers I got were sufficient to me. Just like, 'Oh, what's her name?' And I got told her name and like, 'All right, cool,' and we connected when I was about 15 and then really started getting closer towards like my end of teen years and things like that."

Asked if she felt nervous before meeting Debbie, she said: "I don't really remember. I remember coming downstairs and she was in the living room with my grandma. I was like, 'Hey mom,' and she was like, 'Hi.'

"I sat down, we talked for a second and we went out for the day and just hung out.

"I mean, she's a Sag. She's got the fire. I'm an Aries. I've got the fire. We're very similar. I think what's really cool about my process just in general in all things is learning how expectations kind of f*** us up and if I walk into a relationship with expectations, probably gonna end up being maybe disappointed or frustrated or irritated or a resentment will be born or something, you know?

"And when I walk into something and I don't have expectations, it creates this really cool space for something organic to just blossom."
