SAN FRANCISCO — The first swing was a powerful uppercut. The second swing was more of an off-balanced flail. Both achieved the same result.

Rafael Devers hit two homers and drove in four runs on his bobblehead night and Logan Webb allowed just one hit over seven shutout innings as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Atlanta Braves 5-0 on Saturday night at Oracle Park.

Webb is in the midst of one of the best stretches of his career, having allowed just three earned runs over his last five starts while tossing at least seven innings in each outing. The last Giant starter to toss at least 35 innings while allowing three earned runs or fewer in a five-start span was Bill Swift in 1993.

Devers hit his first home run of the night in the bottom of the second, turning an elevated four-seam fastball from Bryce Elder into a 404-foot solo shot that landed in the Braves’ bullpen to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.

His second home run of the night came on an off-balanced half swing when Elder tried to punch him out on an 0-2 slider below the zone. Still, Devers got enough barrel on the ball to pull it down the right-field line and clank it off the foul pole, winning free Chik-Fil-A for fans.

Up next

Robbie Ray (6-6, 3.70 ERA) will take the mound against fellow left-hander Chris Sale (8-5, 2.14 ERA) as the Giants attempt to secure their first winning homestand since April.
